In 2002, the NHEP suggested six ways to keep the estuaries healthy:
1. Maintain your septic system with annual inspections.
2. Pump your boat waste legally using a pump-out service.
3. Scoop and properly dispose of your pet's waste.
4. Use environmentally safe practices and products on your yard.
5. Never pour anything down storm drains.
6. Support open space protection in your town.
