This 30-minute program by the New Hampshire Estuaries Project (NHEP) is the culmination of an educational campaign designed to teach residents in NH’s coastal watershed that maintaining their septic system protects their environment.

To draw attention to the importance of septic system maintenance, the NHEP sponsored a contest in 2005 and invited people to submit short videos that dealt with the subject in a unique way. The final program features five of these creative, informative, and entertaining amateur videos.

The winning video, entitled “Your Septic System, Your Friend”, includes an original septic system music video, an animated SCUBA diver touring a septic system tank, and a news report parody exposing a septic system abuser.

All of the videos referenced the NH Department of Environmental Services’ recommendations; which are to inspect septic systems yearly, pump them out every three years, and keep harmful products out of septic systems.
